Which Cook County Townships Are Still Open for Assessor Appeals
Cook County Assessor appeals close by township: open townships and last filing dates as of September 13, 2026, plus the Board of Review's group dates.
Cook County does not have one appeal deadline. The Assessor opens and closes appeals township by township and keeps the dates on a live calendar. On September 13, 2026, the Assessor's calendar showed these townships open for appeals, with these last filing dates:
- Barrington: September 23, 2026
- Bremen: September 24, 2026
- Lemont: September 29, 2026
- Calumet: October 2, 2026
- Hyde Park: October 8, 2026
- Leyden: October 14, 2026
- Worth: October 15, 2026
Proviso, Orland, Thornton, Rich and Bloom appeared on the calendar without filing dates. Berwyn, Cicero, Lyons, Oak Park, Palos, River Forest, Riverside and Stickney were listed as closed for Assessor appeals. The calendar changes as townships open, so check the live entry for the property's township.
The Board of Review is a separate stage
The Cook County Board of Review hears appeals on its own schedule, by township group. Its 2026 session document lists Group 1 (Evanston, New Trier, Norwood Park, Oak Park, River Forest, Riverside and Rogers Park) as open from August 3 to September 1, with evidence due September 11. It lists Group 2 (Berwyn, Cicero, Elk Grove, Lakeview, Maine and Palos) as open from August 31 to September 29, 2026, with evidence due October 9, 2026.
What the Assessor reviews
The Assessor's residential appeals page says property owners most commonly challenge the fair market value due to uniformity or overvaluation, and that an appeal can also rest on incorrect information about the property. The Assessor's calendar organizes every appeal date by township. FairPath's earlier article on why Cook County appeals are township-specific explains the calendar.
What FairPath does
FairPath organizes the public record, comparable properties the homeowner selects, and condition facts the homeowner documents into a reviewed evidence packet. The homeowner decides whether to file, files through the official process, and attends any hearing. FairPath does not file, represent the homeowner, or guarantee acceptance, a reduction, savings, or another outcome.
FairPath's Cook County guide collects the official sources for this jurisdiction and starts with the property address.
